Local Activities

One of the main things that attracted the Allen family to Magheramorne Estate was the glory of the nature that envelopes it – both in the gardens and beyond.

Whilst in Magheramorne, why not stay around and soak up the local area. To help you discover the spectacular landscape and the living history, the Allen family will happily advise you on what’s available to enjoy.

The wild and seductive coastline that runs from Whitehead to Magheramorne is the perfect place to start exploring. With a cluster of artisan stores and a recently refurbished Victorian promenade walk leading to a romantic Blackhead lighthouse. Enjoy traditional fish and chips from Jess’s Plaice to round off your day trip.

Located only five miles from the estate, lies the adventurous Gobbins Walk, a two-mile cliff path constructed on Islandmagee. After a recent multi-million-pound investment, the gravity-defying path now offers pulse-pounding excitement. The area is recognised for its rich birdlife, important geology and even dolphins. Due to its popularity, we advise you book in advance to avoid disappointment.

Bring your swimming togs and a towel as Islandmagee offers excellent conditions for a restorative afternoon dip. The best places to indulge in an exhilarating sea swimming experience is Portmuck Harbour, closely followed by Browns bay.

A very well earned homemade ice cream can be purchased from the renowned Rinkha!

Magheramorne Estate stands at the gateway to the Antrim Glens. The Antrim coast road has been voted one of the world’s most scenic drives and can be enjoyed by either road bike or car. You will experience a breath-taking journey past magnificent beaches, sheer cliffs, mediaeval castles, and quaint coastal towns, including Drains Bay, Ballygalley, Glenarm, Carnlough, Waterfoot and Cushendall.

If you are keen on local history, the Allen family advises estate guests to turn right at the end of the estate driveway for a journey into the past. Only eight miles away from Magheramorne Estate is the historic town of Carrickfergus which boasts one of the best-preserved medieval structures in Ireland. The castle was originally built by Anglo-Norman knight John de Courcy in 1177. At various times it has been besieged by the French, Irish, Scots and English.
