Join internationally acclaimed crime novelist Adrian McKinty in conversation with writer and screenwriter Colin Bateman for a sharp, darkly funny discussion on crime fiction, character and the lived experience behind unforgettable stories.

Born in Belfast and raised in Carrickfergus, Adrian McKinty is best known for his award-winning DI Sean Duffy series set in 1980s Northern Ireland. His work has won the Edgar, Anthony, Barry, Theakston and Ned Kelly Awards, while his standalone thriller The Chain spent eleven weeks on the New York Times bestseller list and has been translated into 27 languages. The seventh instalment in the Sean Duffy series will be published in August 2026.

Colin Bateman has written more than thirty novels, including Divorcing Jack and Mystery Man, alongside a successful career in television and film. He created the long-running BBC crime series Murphy’s Law and the four-part psychological thriller Dead and Buried, and wrote the screenplays for The Journey and Driven. He lives in Bangor and denies being born in Newtownards.

Together, McKinty and Bateman will explore writing crime through humour and humanity, the influence of place and politics on storytelling, and how lived experience shapes fiction that resonates far beyond the page. A must for fans of crime fiction!
